Aernout Mik: Shifting Shifting
Until 15 April
Admission free
Focusing on the shifting roles of power and the behavioural patterns adopted in situations of war or disaster, Aernout Mik’s most recent films strike a disturbingly topical chord. ‘Scapegoats’ is set in an abandoned stadium, suggesting the aftermath of a disaster; ‘Raw Footage’ uses unseen newsreel from the war in former Yugoslavia. The films are sculptural installations you walk though and are absorbed into them. ‘Vacuum Room’, shown on 6 enveloping screens, shows a political assembly being disrupted, authority slipping from the politicians as protestors take centre stage.
Join a free, informal Exhibition Tour on Sunday 15 April, 2.00pm with Beki Pope, Camden Arts Centre’s Deputy Director. Feel free to ask questions.
Live Art Performance: Inventory
Wednesday 11 April
7.00-8.30pm
Admission free
Like Aernout Mik, Inventory are interested in social dynamics, in particular engagement with public spaces. A collective of British artists, writers and theorists, they describe their practice as 'fierce sociology'. Previous projects include a staged game of football on the Mall, with Buckingham Palace and Admiralty Arch as goals. For 'Coagulum (Oxford Street)', they disrupted the flow of pedestrians in Oxford Street. This live art performance includes a talk and screening.
