  • Take It Down: Sabine Gruffat & Bill Brown

    In this collection of recent work by North Carolina artists Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown, celluloid film serves as both a material register and a critical resource for interrogating the documentary image. Whether using discontinuous montage, handmade techniques, digital processing, or dramatic re-enactments, these experimental films aim to extend the formal possibilities of non-fiction filmmaking, while depicting such iconic subject matter as Confederate monuments, Earthworks, and the great American road trip.

  • Fracto Experimental Film Encounter 2019

    Between May 23rd and May 26th the third edition of the Experimental Film Encounter Fracto is taking place at Kunsthaus ACUD in Berlin-Mitte. The main programme gathers more than 70 film and video works by artists and filmmakers selected from an international open call that has received more than 800 submissions. The selection will be presented in a series of curated programmes. Some of the filmmakers will be present to talk about their work. The screening program will be supplemented by live-performances, workshops and concerts at ACUD Club and Studio.

  • 65th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen

    The 65th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen will open on 1 May 2019 at 7.30 p.m. in the Lichtburg Filmpalast in Oberhausen with around 400 international guests from politics, culture and film. Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, Minister for Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, Daniel Schranz, Lord Mayor of the City of Oberhausen, and Lars Henrik Gass, Director of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, will speak at the opening.

  • Moving Word 2019: April Edition

    Cinema Parenthèse and Dagvorm are very pleased to present Colours & Collaborations by Deborah S. Phillips (Germany) together with Tobias Schmücking (Germany) at the new venue Dagvorm in Brussels! Phillips has been working on celluloid since the early nineties. Her work includes a diversity of visual disciplines and media including collage, film slides, 35mm and 16mm film, drawing, handmade books, etc.

    This film program brings together two very prominent people within the American and Canadian alternative art and film communities. Eminent film critic, underground actress and performance artist Amy Taubin made a few forays into the world of filmmaking, and her most well known work is In the Bag, from 1981. In the words of film scholar and theorist Noël Carroll: «Roughly twenty minutes long, the film records a search through a tattered, patchwork-quilt shoulder bag for something – we know not what.
