The Moving Image Salon is a monthly gathering in London for artists working in the fields of moving image and experimental filmmaking. It is a relaxed and open space for conversation and exchange about contemporary moving image practices, a networking event and critical forum.

This session will begin with a short introduction by Moving Image Salon’s Daniel & Clara, followed by a presentation of 16mm films by this month’s featured guest Karel Doing.

“Karel Doing is an independent artist, filmmaker and researcher. His interest in experimental film and expanded cinema is reframed within a critical approach toward modernity and post-modernity, in search of new meanings of the real and the material. Through the study of (phyto)chemical process, the recording of oral history and the (re)use of cinematic heritage he explores alternative knowledge systems. In many of his works the rhythmical, painterly and performative qualities of the analog film medium are foregrounded.”

The second part of this session will be an open platform for artists to introduce themselves and their work and engage in discussion about contemporary moving image practices. If you are an artist wishing to present something please arrive at 2:45pm to sign up, spaces for presenting will be very limited. Please bring videos on a USB drive, maximum runtime 10 mins.

All Moving Image Salon events are free but booking is essential.Info: https://movingimageartists.co.uk/moving-image-salon-february/
