Experimental Film Festival Process will happen on  August 18-22 in Riga, Latvia. For the fourth edition the festival will take place offering a diverse international programme of film screenings, live cinema performances, talks and educational events. The festival is organized by artist run film lab/collective Baltic Analog Lab and is happening in Riga since 2017.

Process Festival is dedicated to showing analog experimental works that are either part of or inspired by various strains of personal, underground and avant-garde cinema practices and where analog photochemical film have been in use. As in the previous years, the festival programme will consist of a wide range of audio-visual works by both international and Latvian artists. Shortly before the main events, on August 14-15, the festival will be preceded by a workshop led by Berlin-based artist duo Ojoboca, providing a practical insight into the secrets of expanded cinema.

This year the festival’s theme is End of the World, reflecting both on many kinds of loss as well as the possibility of something new. These questions will be variously dealt with in four programmes of international and Latvian films made in the past few years, curated by Ieva Balode, Lāsma Bērtule and guest-curators Erwin van ‘t Hart (International Film Festival Rotterdam, NL) and Tommaso Isabella (Filmmaker International Film Festival, Fracto, IT/DE), along with the retrospection programme put together by filmmaker Jānis Putniņš (LV), Latvian 1980.-1990. amateur avant-garde programme by Lāsma Bērtule, a feature film by Michael Higgins (Experimental Film Society, IE) and a very special expanded cinema performance program by artists Rous/Smitmajer/Tymal from Czech Republic, Ojoboca from Germany and Lichun Tseng and Robert Kroos from Netherlands.

The main financial support come from Latvian Cultural Capital Foundation and Riga City Council.
