the8fest small-gauge film festival proudly presents the launch of: John Porter’s CineScenes: Documentary Portraits of Alternative Film Scenes Toronto and Beyond, 1978-2015

About the book: John Porter’s CineScenes is the first volume to spotlight Toronto native John Porter’s legendary photographs of alternative film culture – its “celebrities,” places, and rituals – taken across a span of nearly 40 years. This soft-cover, 144-page book features over 200 beautifully reproduced b&w and colour photos by Porter, and includes essays by Scott MacDonald, Nicole Gingras, Dot Tuer, and Tess Takahashi.

Edited by Clint Enns, designed by Leslie Supnet, and published by the8fest in an edition of 500.

About the launch: This event is free to attend. John Porter's CineScenes will be available on-sale for $25 (listed retail price is $35) or packaged with an early-bird, all-inclusive pass to the January 2016 edition of the8fest for $45.

Plus! A screening of original super 8 films by John Porter: - John's T-Shirt Collection (2014, 2 minutes, silent) - Firefly (1980, 3.5 minutes, silent)- Amusement Park (1978/79, 6 minutes, silent)- Funnel Benefit (1982, 5 minutes, sound on film) - Urban Underground (1985, 10 minutes, sound on film)

And! The world premiere of a 35mm film (shot entirely on a still camera) by CineCycle proprietor and Patron Saint of Cinema, Martin Heath.
