corporal interventions MARIA VEDDER
Works from the 70s and 80s

After studying photography, Maria Vedder began making Super 8 films at the end of the 1970s. At the same time, she devoted herself to video art, where she became known for her video installations or, as some would say, video sculptures. Several box monitors stacked on top of each other or placed side by side show images, which are often electronically manipulated. The interacting images seem to play with each other or react to each other. The impression of interaction is achieved through special synchronisation. Maria Vedder's works from the 1980s reveal technological developments in the medium of video. Today, they also tell of the transience of the video technology, when some works can no longer be shown as they were originally exhibited because playback devices do not work anymore and they are no longer available. Maria Vedder's artistic practice has been oriented towards collaboration again and again. Bettina Gruber, Uwe Wiesemann and Brian Eno are among those with whom she has worked closely together.

After the projection there will be a q&a with Maria Vedder and she will present her new book “Alle Zeit der Welt” (in German).

ABOUT attaque(e)r le visible

attaque(e)r le visible is an experimental film and video platform for projections, meetings, talks, book presentations and lectures. Older experimental films and video art as well as the most recent developments of the genre find a place here. attaque(e)r le visible is dedicated to moving images which perturb the consistency and illusionism of the classical film by consciously referring to the technical embeddedness of the film, its incoherence and materiality. The works on display are marked by refusing stereotypical images and linear narration, their critical position towards the co-world, normative visibilities, forms and bodies. In short, it is about films and videos which do not trust the self-evident, and for which the word ’normally‘ does not exist.

attaque(e)r le visible sees itself as a platform for experimental film and video that not only shows films and videos but also contextualises and historicises them. For this purpose, on the one hand, we publish brochures with materials from the time when the works were made. On the other hand, attaque(e)r le visible counteracts the canon with the means of oral history by recording video interviews with the film/video makers and making them freely available on the website www.attaqueerlevisible.com.

After stops in Paris, Kassel and Cologne, attaque(e)r le visible now continues in Berlin in collaboration with the Raum für drastische Maßnahmen. The series consists of two parts, corporal interventions and a VIDEOAKTION (formely Videofest). The monthly film programme corporal interventions looks back at the experimental film and video art of the 70s and 80s. The VIDEOAKTION focuses current tendencies in experimental film and video. attaque(e)r le visible is curated by Lawinia Rate.
