In fusing analogue film (recorded and archival), music, dance, literature, theatre and a visual artist's perspective into digital cinematic works, these are films that are at first sensual and delightful, and then resonant with a power poetic and deep.

    The first piece in the puzzle of artist Daniel & Clara's Avebury Imaginary project, Notes From a Journey uses images and sounds captured during a journey through the British countryside to Avebury stone circle as the material for an exploration at the edges of human perception and reality. A film that has been described as a “visionary travelogue” and an “experimental folk horror”, Notes from a Journey invites viewers to take a trip through vivid colour fields, foreboding darkness, ancient mysteries and immersive soundscapes.

  • Music for a Bellowing Room - Sarah Davachi & Dicky Bahto

    The inaugural presentation of Studio Sound features Suzanne Ciani and Sarah Davachi—two composers of different generations working with innovative music technologies. As part of Studio Sound, Davachi will perform Music for a Bellowing Room live in MoMA's Kravis Studio. This new solo electronic work is a live, durational presentation with video by Dicky Bahto. The performance will be followed by a conversation between the artist and curator Martha Joseph at 4:00 p.m.

Selected by AGO film curator Jim Shedden as one of the ​“100 Best Canadian Films of All Time,” Keith Lock’s seminal underground film returns to The Cinematheque, in a brand-new restoration, nearly fifty years after first debuting here. ​“In the early 1970s, Toronto filmmaker Keith Lock moved to Buck Lake, near Orillia, Ontario, where members of the Toronto art scene were undertaking an experiment in communal living. Lock filmed the achievements and daily rituals of his fellow communards, his camera bearing witness as a community assembled and dispersed.
