The 34th edition of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival hits the screen from June 5th till June 11th 2018. The Hamburg International Short Film Festival celebrates short films as an independent art form, while offering an opportunity for film makers from all over the world to get in touch with an eager audience and with each other.

The International Competition mirrors current global aesthetic tendencies and narrative structures. The German Competition offers an overview of the state of the nation’s short films and film academies. The experimental section Deframed Competition (formerly known as NoBudget) presents more resistant, marginal, raw works and invites us to examine formal aesthetics, to witness material studies and to engage into exciting challenges. The Mo&Friese Hamburg Children’s Short Film Festival is one of a small number of short film festivals for children in the world.

This years special programmes are: “Disco”, LAB: Rituals, Loops + Dances, Installations by Paul Spengemann, Helena Wittmann/Nika Breithaupt and Alexandre Larose as well as a two programmes focusing on contemporary Chinese films and video artworks.
