LaborBerlin is pleased to present a programme with films by members of our fellow filmlab Harkat Lab from Mumbai. Harkat Lab was founded three years ago as part of Harkat Studios, a production company who turn their space into an off-space on several evenings a week, showing a diverse program of theater plays and concerts. Based on this existing community, Harkat Lab have evolved over the past three years in terms of personnel, technology and space, and established international connections.
The program consists of 15 short, handmade and often very personal 16mm films, which have in common that most of them were made in a very local context and make do and work with the available technical possibilities. Four filmmakers will be present for the screening – Sheba Alexander, Simran Ankolkar, Namrata Sanghani & Karan Suri Talwar. They will talk about their films, their practice with analog film and about running a grassroot art space and filmlab in an environment that is dominated by a commercial film industry.
