    Founded by filmmaker Bruce Baillie in 1961, San Francisco Cinematheque is the Bay Area’s premier venue for avant-garde/experimentalunderground and personally expressive film and video work. In our steadfast dedication to exhibiting works of aesthetically radical cinema from all historical eras and geo-political locales, San Francisco Cinematheque celebrates the breadth and depth of this vibrant art form in all its myriad expressivities.

    Cinematheque seeks submissions of recent films and videos for CROSSROADS 2017, the eighth manifestation of our annual film festival to be held  May 19–21, 2017 at San Francisco’s Victoria TheatreCROSSROADS 2017 will showcase new film/video works by emerging and established filmmakers, including performance and works of “live cinema.” Cinematheque seeks submissions of compelling non-commercial, artist-made work of all genres and durations.

  • Open Call 'End(less)' Contemporary video art festival

    Second edition of a contemporary video art festival with an international selection of video artists and film makers showing their vision on the theme of 'End(less)', translated to infinity, life & death, circle of life, transformation, etc. The video's will be screened in a mystical underground space, part of Museum Romeinse Katakomben (MRK) in Valkenburg, the Netherlands. 

    Museum Romeinse Katakomben is a historical Roman museum. Wandering through the underground passages you will discover the ancient Rome of the second and third century. You descend to the graves of ordinary Roman citizens and to the beautiful tombs of prominent Romans. The video festival is part of the contemporary program of this museum.

  • Call for submission for 8th Cairo Video Festival

    Medrar for Contemporary Art is accepting applications for the 8th Cairo Video Festival, which will take place in February, 2017.

    Initiated by the Cairo-based artist initiative Medrar for Contemporary Art in 2005, this festival continues its focus on providing a platform for sharing and discussing newly produced high concept/low-budget experimental videos and films. Based on a call for works by emerging artists, the festival program takes the format of a concise series of video screenings, accompanied by talks and discussions with active video-makers and curators to tackle some of the key themes and issues presented in the works.

  • Re:Cinema - Open call for moving images works that engage with the cinematic

    We seek moving image works for a curated program that examines the idea of the cinematic in relation to the contemporary image­scape. Please submit recent creative, original and diverse works that explore ideas of the cinematic in a variety of ways. The program will premiere at the 2016 Sydney Underground Film Festival.   • Scream but not Cry Call for Entries

    Blacklight Film + Video Series is currently seeking submissions for the upcoming Scream but not Cry film screening on August 29th, 2016 at Sediment Arts in Richmond, VA.

    Scream but not Cry is a screening that aims to move the viewer from a state inaction to action. It has been created as a response to feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, frustration, and isolation derived from the current social and political climate. We are seeking work that explores these feelings in an attempt to actively combat them. We are seeking any form of social or political activism expressed through film and/or video.

  • FLAMIN Productions: Round 7 Call for submissions

    Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network (FLAMIN) has recently announced its next call for entries for FLAMIN Productions, a unique two-stage commissioning fund for London-based artist filmmakers.

    Successful applicants will be awarded £30,000 each in production funding, as well as a development programme with ongoing support and professional mentoring. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 24 October, and FLAMIN will host a special information session at the ICA on Wednesday 28 September for those wishing to find out more.

    Now in our 24th year, the Chicago Underground Film Festival, the longest running “underground” film festival in the world, is an internationally recognized program providing a venue for documentary, experimental and avant-garde narrative film and video. The festival’s mission is to select and screen film, video and related works presenting a diverse line up of moving image programming focusing on filmmakers working to reinvent and explore new approaches to established practices, to foster new forms of media art and to build an audience for such work. Our goal is to achieve these aims by presenting a fun, user-friendly and accessible event..if you suspect your film is “underground,” it probably is.
