Call For Proposals
Analogue Resilience: A Film Labs Gathering
May 25 – 30, 2023 in Toronto, Canada

The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) is excited to announce that we will be hosting a gathering of analogue film labs and filmmakers here in Toronto, Canada, taking place May 25 – 30, 2023. Our intention for this gathering is to create spaces and situations for artist-run labs, collectives, and filmmakers to share with and learn from each other through collaboration and conversation.

The theme of the gathering is Analogue Resilience. Analogue, to invoke the material qualities of the film medium, as well as an embodied way of working. Resilience, in reference to the continued vitality of this form of filmmaking; and to the community of people whom filmmaking survives through, who continue this practice in contexts and locations in which they encounter resistance.

The gathering will include demonstrations and discussion sessions divided into three sections: Organizational Issues, Techniques and Technologies, and Presentation. We are putting out a Call for Proposals to invite participants to suggest the topics and experiences they would like to discuss and the hands-on techniques they would like to learn or share. The purpose of this call is to enable us to collectively create a general structure for the gathering that reflects the interests of the international analogue filmmaking community. Both local and international proposals are welcome. Please note that we are not accepting proposals for stand alone screenings.

LIFT is committed to diversity in all its forms and will be looking at the proposals with an eye towards prioritizing inclusive topics and proposals from BIPOC and LGBTQIA filmmakers.

Deadline: Tuesday, October 11, 2022 by 5:00pm ET.

In full transparency, LIFT has the funds to host an event, but the size of the event and related travel funds, with specific regard to those who are not able to secure funding independently, will be contingent on future funding not yet obtained and may be a collaboration with the artist.

Proposals can be submitted at the following link:
