Submissions for the 13th Montréal Underground Film Festival are now open! MUFF celebrates low-budget filmmaking and promotes those who challenge the constraints and conventions of mainstream Hollywood. Co-founded by Karina Mariano and Zoë Brown, MUFF has morphed into a collective of independent filmmakers, writers, teachers and cinephiles committed to seeking out edgy films bristling with a sense of creative freedom, energy and experimentation. Films in any way affiliated with a major motion picture studio, and “calling-card” films (that is, slick, thinly disguised shout-outs to the commercial industry), are ineligible.

Eligibility

Independent Productions OnlyFilms produced, financed, or initiated by a major motion picture studio are not eligible for screening at the Montreal Underground Film Festival.Films should have a completion date not earlier than 1 January, 2016.

Other public screeningsFilms screened previously at other events and festivals are permissible. However, films with Montreal-premiere status will be prioritized.

Format for
 preview copy: Vimeo or YouTube link (or other online link). Maximum number of submissions: 2 per artist, 10 per distributor.Screening copy: If your film is selected, we will ask for specific technical requirements by email.

Mandatory Materials Accompanying Your Submission

1. Completed ENTRY FORM
2. Please send a photo representing your film by email, with the name of the film in the subject line, to: [email protected].

Selected films Only filmmakers whose films have been selected will be contacted (end of April 2018).

Filmmaker of selected films must provide the following materials:

• A copy of the film in high-resolution Quicktime format (H.264)
• Promotional material, if available

ShippingIf necessary, any shipping and handling costs to the festival office will be covered by the entrant. Preview copies and promotional material will be retained by the festival.
