This is my first topic on this forum so hello tu everyone :) it's nice to meet some other people who are also interested in avant-garde and experimental cinema. i'm from poland so if you would need some informations about polish avant- and exp- directors or artist just ask :) but back to the main topic...
what do you think about gus van sant? isn't he one of the most interesting directors nowdays? i remeber his "elephant" - for me breath-atking masterpiece - and recently i've seen "paranoid park". it isn't maybe so powerfull as elephant bust still van sant is incredible.
i think van sant can comapred in future to names of bergman or antonioni... maybe bela tarr can make so interesting films as hi does... what do you thnik? which film of van sant do you like the best?

Hi, Alterego, and welcome to the forum! ;)

My favourite Van Sant's film so far is 'Elephant' (I haven't seen 'Paranoid Park' yet). I generally like Van Sant's films, but their quality varies a lot. 'Gerry', for example, was a bit of a let-down. But I agree with you that he's a very interesting filmmaker and defintely in my "must watch" list :D

How is the experimental filmmaking 'scene' in Poland? What are the most interesting filmmakers. I'm curious to know! :D

do you want to knowa about polish experimental filmmakers nowadays or maybe about our classic directors? nowadays we don't have any interesting filmmakers (maybe one you can finf on the net - his name is micha? brzezi?ski). but in the past we had some well-known characters like Jan Lenica or Waldemar Borowczyk. One of the films made by Lenica has been chosen for being 3rd the greatest experimental short film ever!
But i think that it is so large topic so i canno't tell about everything. but maybe you would be interested in my proposition - don't you wanna make a new magazine about experimental cinema? i'm making such one in poland and i would be grateful if you would like to write for my "alter ego" (it is it's name) an article about experimental film scene in your country.
i would thank you for that by writing about polish film scene for you :)
how do you think?

but back to the main topic
paranoid park is very good in my opinion. have you seen "to die for" with nicole kidman? i would be grateful about knowing some more about this film.

Sorry for the late reply. Took myself a few days off :)
I woul like to know about recent polish experimental cinema. I know a bit about the older masters (The Themersons, Borowczyk (wasn't it Walerian?), Lenica...). Maybe you could inform us about other less-known ones in a new post ;) I'll reply to your offer by mail.

My favorite Gus Van Sant film is Good Will Hunting. It was absolutely brilliant.
