    Basement Films’ annual international film festival is proud to announce our call for submissions for Experiments in Cinema v10.T36 (April 15-19, 2015). Each year Experiments in Cinema brings the international community of cinematic un-dependents to Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA  for a film festival that is designed to inspire a new generation of homegrown media activists to participate in shaping future trends of cultural representation. Experiments In Cinema seeks new and old work that moves beyond traditional narrative, experimental and documentary forms.

  • BASEMENT Media Fest #5

    BASEMENT is an annual, touring screening of contemporary lo-fidelity experimental cinema. We have no restrictions on length or content, as long as you feel your work fits our festival's theme. Our entry criteria are loose, but our will is strong.

    We charge no entry fees, and the deadline for submissions is 12.31.2014. Our entry form can be found here. Any questions regarding submissions can be sent via email.

    What is experimental?
    FLEX doesn’t want to know in advance what experimental means. We’re interested in work that challenges generic designations (including the traditional “avant-garde” or “underground” ones). Work may also draw on documentary, narrative, animation or any other tradition – or no tradition at all. So, what is experimental? We’re hoping to be surprised by your answer.

    OtherZine, the semi-annual 'zine of long-standing bastion of experimental film, video, and performance in San Francisco's Mission District, Other Cinema, is now accepting submissions for its nearing Issue #27! Whether avant-garde or engagé, our emphasis is on the radical subjectivities and sub-cultural sensibilities that find expression in marginalized cinematic genres, media archaeology efforts, as well as contemporary intermedia hybrids. We encourage cinema-related writings and artist projects that support these endeavors and other experiments in media culture-essays, articles, interviews, reviews (art, books, media, events), rants, videos, illustrations, images, and other articulated brainstorms!

  • Another Experiment by Women Film Festival - 4th season

    4th season of Another Experiment by Women Film Festival

    AXW has promoted and screened experimental shorts since 2010 in Manhattan NY. Many of these films feature underrepresented themes and issues distinct to women and girls, are usually made by women and, sometimes, men.

    Six screenings per year are presented thru New Filmmakers NY at Anthology Film Archives.We recommend submitting shorter works of around 10 minutes and under, as these are easier to include.Narrative dramas, and conventional documentaries are unlikely to be included, unless they are exceptionally original/experimental in form and/or content.

  • 53rd Ann Arbor Film Festival

    The call for entries is now open for the 53rd Ann Arbor Film Festival!

    The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest-running independent and experimental film festival in North America, established in 1963. Internationally recognized as a premiere forum for independent filmmakers and artists, each year's festival engages audiences with remarkable cinematic experiences. The six-day festival presents 40 programs with more than 180 films from over 20 countries of all lengths and genres, including experimental, animation, documentary, fiction, and performance-based works. The AAFF provides at least $20,000 in cash and film stock/services to more than 20 filmmakers, serves as a qualifying festival for Academy Award® nomination in the short film category and provides touring opportunities for select filmmakers.

    The 53rd AAFF will take place March 24 – 29, 2015 in Ann Arbor, MI.

  • Usted no Debería estar Aquí

    Usted No Debería Estar Aquí... (“You shouldn’t be here…”) opens at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts on November 1st 2014 through December 16th 2014. The exhibition will feature film screenings, video art & animation installations as well as musical performances through its run time. Schedules & performances to be announced (TBA).

    The exhibition opens during the 10th annual Noche de Altares Celebration & Street Festival organized by El Centro Cultural de Mexico & the Noche de Altares Collective. It is also All Saint’s Day or Dia de los Muertos as its traditionally observed in Latin American Countries. The event draws over 10,000 souls to the free outdoor event and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts is located in the direct area of this celebration in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana’s Artist Village.

  • Mono No Aware VIII Call for Entries

    Submissions are now open for the 8th Annual Mono No Aware exhibition, to take place December 5th & 6th, 2014 at LightSpace Studios in Brooklyn, NY. Mono No Aware is an international exhibition open to any person or group of persons making contemporary art that incorporates Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm or altered light projections as part of a sculpture, installation, dance, or expanded cinema performance. For example: blending film & theater performance, musicians creating a visual experience for their sound, & experimental filmmakers working with story tellers. Submissions including digital projections will not be considered. All moving images should be from an analog source.

  • ANALOGICA Festival #4

    ANALOGICA, the festival for analog technology (25-28 September 2014), is conceived and organized by Resistenza Analogica as a natural follow-up and evolution of the many screenings made during the past years. The festival usually takes place during a weekend in September and showcases a selection of cinema: super8 and 16mm films; photography: analog shots and camera obscura works; music: vinyl and magnetic tape DJs, live music using analog electronic instruments
