    Los Angeles Filmforum is the only venue in Southern California dedicated exclusively to the ongoing, non-commercial exhibition of independent, experimental, and progressive cinema. In keeping with our mission to feature the underrepresented voices and visions of truly independent filmmakers, and in conjunction with the Getty’s $3 million initiative to explore post-war L.A. art, Pacific Standard Time: Art in LA 1945 – 1980, we are planning a 16+ screening series in 2011 related to the history of avant-garde media in Los Angeles. The purpose of the Getty’s initiative is to broaden awareness and exposure of LA's contemporary art history.

    Athens Video Art Festival is Greece’s official festival on video art and at the same meets the requirements of people from the full spectrum of creativity. During its course it has won the respect of artists, organizations and public which is massively present every year. Through its versatile action Athens Video Art Festival constitutes a field of promotion and a link between the artists and the audience inside and outside Greece.

    Every year Athens Video Art Festival evolves, enriches and sets new goals, raising the bar higher, brings out its academic side and enhances it through important tributes and collaborations, provides the artistic community with additional motive for creation presents international cutting-edge developments on the field of digital arts and communicates them to the wide audience.

    Our goal remains the expression through a versatile cultural event open to any form of expression of the digital creation.

With the goal of public awareness and action involving environmental issues, the eco-sensitive works of all the categories of Athens Video Art Festival will meet in a special three day event and address a wide public, open to stimulation and interested in new media. This way, and with the new forms of digital arts as a vehicle, we aim to enforce the modern conception of the pubic in matters of ecological sensitivity.

    The Australian International Experimental Film Festival is now calling for submissions for the 2010 festival that will take place 30th April – 3rd May.

    We are looking forward to receiving and seeing your exciting work, be it video, film or expanded cinema, and hope that we will have a chance to show an exceptional programme that includes your submission.

    The process to participate is reasonably simple and the online entry, as well as the A.I.E.F.F. regulations, can be found on our website at the addresses below. Just follow the instructions in filling out the entry form and those that follow after the form has been submitted. Please bear in mind that this is our first year and even though we have tested our system there is a chance of glitches so please let us know if you have any problems because our priority is to your work and not to our system we’ve set in place.

    Closing date for submissions is 15th February 2010 (postmarked)

    Call for Works:

    syncraesthesia: n. the fusion of acousmatic sound and abstract vision to create an immersive audiovisual experience; see also synchresis and synaesthesia?

    Soundings Festival is issuing a call for audiovisual works exploring the combination of electroacoustic composition and experimental video. Selected works will be performed at the Soundings International Festival of Sonic Art in the Reid Concert Hall, Bristo Square, Edinburgh during the weekend of 5th - 7th February 2010.

    The performance venue allows for stereo diffusion of the audio component of the works.
    Please indicate with your submission if you would like your submission to be diffused by the event curator or if you would prefer a standard balanced stereo playback. Diffusion scores may also be submitted with the work.

    Submission guidelines:
    - Work must be a maximum of 20 minutes in length.
    - Audio must be stereo format.
    - Works should be submitted as .avi or .mov file on data DVD.
    - A separate audio track in .wav or .aif format must also be included on the DVD.

    The submission deadline is Friday 8th January 2010 at 5pm.

    Entries must include:
    - Full contact details (name, address and email)
    - 2 jpeg images (300dpi resolution)

    Note that submissions will not be returned, but will be added to the Soundings audiovisual archive.

    The Cambridge International Super 8 Film Festival is now accepting entries for its 2010 showcase.

    Films must have been completed after January 1, 2003. The Festival accepts only films which have be shot on the Super 8 format (or at least 50% of the running time).

    The festival will run from Thursday April 21, 2010 to Saturday May 01, 2010. Entry deadline is December 26, 2009 (final). No entry fees. Films 20 minutes or more are considered the panorama programme.

    With more than 60 World, International, European and UK Premieres, our competition and panorama programmes showed the best films originated on the brilliant Super 8 format.

    The Edinburgh International Film Festival invites submissions for its experimental section 'Black Box'. The 64th EIFF will take place from 16 - 27 June 2010 in Edinburgh. The Festival is internationally regarded as a focus for discovery, a celebration of cinema, a centre of debate and a catalyst for new films. Black Box has been developing and expanding over the past few years and screens a wide variety of short and feature-length experimental works on both film and video.

    Last year's festival included films by Chris Kennedy, Kerry Laitala, Scott Nyerges, Antoni Pinent, Cecile Fontaine, Frederique Devaux, Ben Rivers, Marie Losier, Tomonari Nishikawa and Makino Takashi.
