The Marseille Underground Film & Music Festival works on the diffusion of audiovisual & artistic productions coming from alternative and underground cultures. The festival team curates an eclectic programme including film projections (personal and thematic retrospectives), an international short film competition, concerts, exhibitions, talks, workshops and other hybrid cultural forms.
MUFF #4 takes place from April 15 to 19, 2020 in various venues in Marseilles.
At MUFF we carry, without any hierarchy of genre, an undisclosed love for the disturbed, the deranged, the degendered, the non-conformist, curious, weird, hilarious, vindictive, pornographic or boring.
Once selected, the films in the international competition will be submitted to the vote of the audience, who will determine the winner of a symbolic “audience award”. The selected films will be screened in two programs. Each program will be shown twice, on a donation-based entry.
Submissions are free of charge.
Each submitted film has to meet the following criteria:
the registration form has to be completed in order to submit one or more films
the submitted films need to be between 0 and 60 minutes long.
the submitted films need to be achieved after 1/1/2019
previews need to be submitted via a URL link to an online video platform (Vimeo, YouTube, etc…). No link to download previews will be accepted.
subtitles in English or French are mandatory when the original language is not English nor French (French subs are preferred).
Films produced independently are encouraged.
Standardized fiction forms, TV documentaries, videoclips and animation films for children will not be considered.
Films who won’t match the above mentioned criteria will not be considered.
Deadline for submitting your films: January 5, 2020.
If your film is selected:
you will be informed by individual email by the end of February, 2020.
for screening purposes, we accept HD digital files that you can send us via file transfer platforms (WeTransfer, MyAirBridge, etc.) and other physical supports such as DVDs, Blu-Ray and 16mm reels. In case of selection we will provide you individually the postal address where you can send us the screening material. Please note that shipping costs are on the sender, while returning costs are on the festival.
we will collect all the screening material (both files and on physical supports) between March 1st and April 1st, 2020. No film support will be accepted after this deadline.
2 stills from your film in .jpg format in high definition (300dpi) will be required for our communication supports.
for economic reasons, the festival cannot afford to pay any screening fee to project the selected films. For the communication supports of the festival (program, website and social networks, teaser, press kit), we will ask you to file an authorization for diffusion.
the festival keeps the right to preserve a copy of the selected films for its personal archives and commits to not use them without the consent of copyrights holders or the artist(s).
