This program tries to offer a possible and humble solution to a fundamental dilemma of our times, the one between representation and its limits. How can we represent the Shoah and how can we portray the vanished Jewish world of Poland, if we must compare Auschwitz to “an earthquake [that] destroys not only lives, buildings, and objects but also the instruments used to measure earthquakes directly or indirectly (Lyotard)”?

July 30, 19h - Cinematheque 4Experimental Poland #2 – Hommage to the Workshop of the Film Form
The Workshop of the Film Form was an art group active between 1970-1977 in Łódź. The artists of the group criticized both the university system and the structures of cinematic production, trying to free the film from its narrative codes, to unmask its artificiality, to analyze the foundations of the medium. The Workshop was a real subversive force in Polish experimental cinema, and an active center of creative rebellion.
