Wharf Chambers

Wharf Chambers is located on the ground floor of a Victorian former pork pie factory at 23-25 Wharf Street, LS2 7EQ. It’s on the edge of The Calls near the back of the Corn Exchange.   The venue is accessible to wheelchair users or those with specific access requirements through the back door.

Wharf Chambers is run by a workers’ co-operative. This means that the business is owned and controlled by the people that you will meet when you visit – those working behind the bar, on the door, sound engineering, cleaning the toilets etc, as well as doing all the behind the scenes administrative work, accounting, maintenance etc. These are the people that make the decisions. As a co-operative we have equal control over our work; we all share responsibility for making decisions and we answer to ourselves- not to a manager and not to shareholders.

The co-operative intendd to open a cafe after more work has been completed and planning conditions have been met.   All licensable events (when the bar is open, when there’s live music or a clubnight, etc) are managed by a members club: Wharf Chambers Co-operative Club (W.C.C.C).  Members have democratic control of the club. Members of the club can book the events space for live music, club-nights, art events, film screenings, workshops, meetings, etc   The Club has a set of formal rules, which you can read here.   We are committed to providing a safe space for all members and guests, please see our Safer Spaces policy for more information.

To attend licensed events (anything with alcohol, music, or films) you need to be a member of Wharf Chambers Co-operative Club. So join up now! To become a member please fill out the form via our website. You will not receive a confirmation email – please contact us or come in to collect a card.
