64th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen Call for Entries

The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is now inviting submissions to its 64th edition, which will take place in Oberhausen from 3 to 8 May, 2018. The Festival organises five competitions: International, German, films from North Rhine-Westphalia, International Children’s and Youth Films and the MuVi Award for the best German music video. A total of almost 42,000 Euros will be awarded in prize money.

New: A dedicated ECFA (European Children's Film Association) jury will nominate one film from the Children’s and Youth Film Competition 2018 for the newly installed first ECFA Short Film Award, which will be conferred at the ECFA general assembly during the 2019 Berlinale. The ECFA Short Film Award is intended to raise awareness of and draw attention to the short film genre among children’s film professionals

Films must be submitted as preview links. The entry forms and regulations for all competitions are now online at www.kurzfilmtage.de

International productions:

Early deadline for submissions: 15 October, 2017 (receipt)
Final deadline for submissions: 1 February, 2018 (receipt)

- eligible are films whose principal producer or production company reside outside Germany
- maximum length 35 minutes
- produced after 1 January 2017
- international productions must be German festival premieres
- awards totalling 25,500 Euros

International productions will be previewed for the International Competition and, if suitable, for the Children’s and Youth Film Competition.

German productions:

Deadline for submissions: 15 February, 2018 (receipt)

- eligible are films whose principal producer or production company reside in Germany
- maximum length 45 minutes
- produced after 1 January, 2017
- awards totalling 7,500 Euros (German Competition) and 2,250 Euros (NRW Competition)

German productions will be previewed for the German Competition, productions from North Rhine-Westphalia will also be previewed for the NRW Competition. In addition, suitable films will be previewed for the Children’s and Youth Film Competition.

20th MuVi Award for the best German music video

Deadline for submissions: 26 February, 2018 (receipt)

- eligible are music videos whose director and/or principal producer or production company reside in Germany
- maximum length 15 minutes
- produced after 1 January, 2017
- awards totalling 3,500 Euros

Children’s and Youth Film Competition

- awards totalling 3,000 Euros and a nomination for the ECFA Short Film Award
- for German productions the regulations of the German Competition apply, for international productions the regulations of the International Competition apply with the exception of the provision concerning German festival premieres
