Lionel Soukaz

Lionel Soukaz (born in Paris in 1953) is a French filmmaker.

Biography He begins to film in Super8 in 1973, shooting underground films on homosexuality, still taboo in France, pornography or social criticism. His films often take the form of diary films.

He has organized several gay film festivals such as the Festival du film de La Rochelle (1977), and 1978's 'Quizaine de cinéma homosexuel' in Paris. The Ministry of Culture interrupted this festival and Soukazs was arrested. He shot Race d'Ep, un siècle d'images de l'homosexualité with Guy Hocquenghem in 1979.
