Eugènia Balcells

Eugènia Balcells (b.Barcelona in 1943) is a multifaceted artist. Her work has been developed in multiple media, such as performance, video, film or installations. Her career has taken place between Barcelona and the USA, where she moved to at the end of the 1960s to get a BFA at the University of Iowa. Since the mid-1970s she's considered an essential figure in spanish conceptual art, centering her work on consumer society and the effects of news media on mass culture. Her work has been exhibited at MNCARS, MACBA, Palau de la Virreina de Barcelona, Museo del Barrio in New York, Centro Cultural de Belem in Lisbon and the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Río de Janeiro. She as been part of many collective exhibitions an participated in many film and video,performance and installation festivals.
