The works of new filmmakers doesn't usually get all the attention they should, so it's hard to know about them. Which experimental filmmakers do you like or consider that show promise that have surfaced in the last decade or so? I personally like Shiho Kano or Olivier Fouchard, to say a few.

One filmmaker who's work I greatly admire is Andrew Kotting, his most recent works Offshore and Deadad are definitely worth seeking out, Deadad was originally designed as a multi-screen installation, but there is a DVD available that is extremely effective as a piece of work in it's own right.
What I like about Andrew's work is the fact that his working processes are presented as an integral part of the narratives that he constructs. His works feature a journey of some kind as a starting point, while his finished products show us both a person emotionally emerged in a journey and a reflexive insight into a filmmakers creative journey.

Think it was a good idea to start this thread Marcus, am not familiar with the two names you have mentioned so I will make an effort to seek out some work.
I wanted to start by mentioning Andrew's work, although he is quite well known, not really an emerging filmmaker, but wanted to mention him anyway because his work is of great inspiration to me.
Will consider the question and hopefully think of some more names to add later.

I haven't seen anything by Kotting (yet) but I'll try to find out about him :) Do you say there is a DVD available? Is it on sale anywhere or it's a limited distribution thing?

As for the artists I mentioned, I selected them first because I ahve their names fresh in mind. Both are featured in lowave's "Different cinema vol.2" compilation, though I had the pleasure to know about Fouchard's films a couple of years ago when they were projected in a small independent venue here in Madrid. A rare chance!

Shiho Kano's work is amazing. She has a very powerful cinematography, that she uses to explore interior spaces, forms and light. Kano plays with the concept of absence through objects. These are captures from "Lily on the glass":

Fouchard is a completely different filmmaker. He works with light and shadow and his films are between the oniric and the narrative. They usually have a heavily grainy texture. These are captures from "Flamen'co":

I hope this thread becomes a very fruitful one :)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 'The Man from London'. It's my new fave film of all time. As I've said elsewhere, I understand that most people hate this film because it moves so slowly. It might actually move slower than any other movie ever made. I don't care. This epic masterpiece reveals an ironic Existential beauty within the torment of its subjects. The slowness of this film works to amplify the emptiness within the lives unfolding in front of us. At times this film seems to stand still, like a void staring right back at us. It's a beautiful void. Maybe the most beautiful void ever.

I think I've only been able to watch a few by Damon Packard (Dawn of an evil millennium, The 70s horror trailer,... and his acting in Mock up on Mu), but nothing by the other two. What kind of films do they make?

D. Kowalski, Luuaakknkangas, time lapse FF, from Index 32

A few more later. I really appreciate all suggestions.
