Usted No Debería Estar Aquí... (“You shouldn’t be here…”) opens at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts on November 1st 2014 through December 16th 2014. The exhibition will feature film screenings, video art & animation installations as well as musical performances through its run time. Schedules & performances to be announced (TBA).

The exhibition opens during the 10th annual Noche de Altares Celebration & Street Festival organized by El Centro Cultural de Mexico & the Noche de Altares Collective. It is also All Saint’s Day or Dia de los Muertos as its traditionally observed in Latin American Countries. The event draws over 10,000 souls to the free outdoor event and the Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts is located in the direct area of this celebration in the heart of Downtown Santa Ana’s Artist Village. 

This exhibition will include works curated by: Sali Heraldez- Founder and Creative Director of SolArt Media & Design & SolArt Radio & curator at SolArt Gallery Café (2004 to 2011) and Lilia Lamas - Curator and member of the Sixpack Projects, Curator and Exhibitions Manager for the Florence Biennale and Spazio LINEA Arte Contemporanea in Florence Italy.

Concluding the exhibition all participants will receive an e-mail with the website hosting the exhibition Images and list of participants, as well as images from the event. A selection of participating artists’ works in Usted No Debería Estar Aquí... will be presented in a to be announced location in Florence, Italy.  Dates and details for participating artists to exhibit in Italy will be determined by January 2015

Theme

Usted No Deberia Estar Aqui (“You shouldn’t be here”):  A multimedia exhibition. In this exhibition we will showcase artists who reflect themes that people don’t want to deal with or situations in which people choose to ignore in order to detach from reality. The artist will focus the entries on their own concept, views & themes reflecting someone/something that “shouldn’t be here”.

Artist submission material and specifications:

Send up to FIVE (5) video/images of a specific work / body of work, OR your portfolio URL, on theme. (For each images include: title, year, medium, time length if video, dimensions) ·      

A 100 word artistic biography ·      

A 100 word summary/overview of how your work on how fits the theme.No need to write an essay, just respond simply and with feeling. Describe your proposal based on theme of exhibition: “Usted No Deberia Estar Aqui” (You shouldn’t be here”) 

Technical Requirements for your artwork proposed. ·   

Mediums Accepted: video, sound art, moving image, film stills, mixed media, experimental text, interviews, documentaries, video dance works, and photography (small selection). ·      

A participation fee of $38 for every 3 or up to 3 entries .
