A world premiere presentation. EXcinema commissioned twenty films by international experimental filmmakers spread across four continents to create one feature length road film. The Spaces Between Cities is a collaboration made in the form of an exquisite corpse. Each film connects randomly to the next by way of a series of prompts creating a continuous road trip, or journey that will connect these different parts of the world. Shooting locations include: Seattle, the cascade mountain range, WA; Portland, OR; Porta Costa, San Jose, Colma, New Almaden, Huntington Drive in L.A. (which passes through nine cities without spaces between), CA; Chicago; Baltimore County; New York; Baton Rouge; Toronto, Canada; Colombia; Colliguay, Chile; Newcastle, UK; Barcelona, Spain; Brandenburg, Berlin, Marburg, Germany; Serbia; and Seoul, Korea.

Filmmakers: Amy Bassin, Mark Blickley, Stephen Broomer, Charles Chadwick, Pip Chodorov, Konstantinos-Antonios Goutos, Pablo Molina Guerrero, Salise Hughes, Douglas Katelus, Anna Kipervaser, Kate Lain, Insa Langhorst, Jesse Malmed, Milan Milosavlijevic, Reed O'Beirne, Arto Polus, Ben Popp, Blanca Rego, Margaret Rorison, Dustin Zemel, Robert Zverina

What is EXquisite Corpse Cinema?

EXquisite Corpse Cinema is a collaborative film project that incorporates randomness and chance. Each filmmaker was asked to make films between 2- 5 mins. Their only requirements were the use of prompts. Each filmmaker was asked to interpretate two prompts given to start and end their films. The prompts would become seques leading to the next film. There were twenty prompts for twenty films, and each filmmaker randomly picked their prompts, unaware who's film would come before or after theirs.

For example one series of prompts was Book of Matches/ Hat in Path . The filmmaker was challenged how to connect the dots of this random pairing. The following filmmaker had Hat in Path/ Person Kicking a Rock which lead to another random pairing and other possibilities.

Many of these filmmakers have never met, and live in different cities and countries. They had no idea how their films would fit into the finished project.
