Lary Seven, Joel Schlemowitz and Bradley Eros, experimental film artists and collectors of obsolete media artifacts, (joined by members of Optipus, the expanded cinema group), present a night of uncanny images: mysterious travels, occult iconography, bizarre creatures, industrial detritus, and the strange and wondrous landscapes of fairy tales, fables and myths of the artificial sublime, displayed through the translucent exotica of hand-tinted photographs, decayed surfaces, and odd symbols and illustrations of the mundane made marvelous.
Bradley Eros is an artist working in myriad media: experimental film & video, collage, photography, performance, sound, text, contracted and expanded cinema & installation. Also a maverick curator, composer, designer, & investigator. Concepts include: ephemeral cinema, mediamystics, subterranean science, erotic psyche, cinema povera, poetic accidents and musique plastique. Lary Seven is an ambassador of irritainment, with his precarious repertoire of analogue accidents, custom-built failure devices & unintentional cheese-plate of used dust. He does, indeed, like to set up situations where he has almost no control over what happens.Technically precise, yet somehow deeply resistant to the stain of precision.L7 is a multimedia alchemist able to coax profane, inscrutable sounds and images from numerous and mysterious devices. His work has been described as that of a magician or scientist one who may not always be certain of the outcome, but who is determined to see it through to its (il)logical end.
Since the late seventies, Lary has been building, soldering, photographing, recording, mixing, filming, playing, collecting, re-interpreting and creating in order to make something happen. He's the founder of the Analogue Society and co-founder of Plastikville Records and Directart Productions Ltd. Lary has released work on Touch, Diskono, Ectoplasm, Plastikville and Plastiktray records. He has performed in many countries in Europe as well as in the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Seven lives and works in Manhattan's East Village and is one of the last remaining vestiges of a once-vibrant community.
Joel Schlemowitz is an experimental filmmaker based in Brooklyn who works in 16mm film, shadowplay, and stereographic media. He has recently completed first feature film "78rpm," an experimental documentary about the gramophone. His short works have been shown at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, New York Film Festival, and Tribeca Film Festival and have received awards from the Chicago Underground Film Festival, The Dallas Video Festival, and elsewhere. Shows of installation artworks include Anthology Film Archives, and Microscope Gallery. He teaches experimental filmmaking at The New School and is Resident Film Programmer and Arcane Media Specialist at the Morbid Anatomy Museum.
