    Dublin Art Book Fair 2023: Poliphonic hosts a presentation of Sky Hopinka’s new collection of poems The Island Weights published by Stereo Editions as a letterpress limited edition.

    Relating to the four water spirits holding the earth in place, one of many stories in Ho-Chunk cosmology, The Island Weights (Wijirawaséwe) explores language to conjure these beings, seeking direction while wandering through homeland boundaries and bodies of water.

    Free event hosting short film screenings and a new, artist-led installation: 'H.E.R.M - I.S'

    Back in 2016, LE’s first event took place in a shipping container on the grounds of the University of East London. The festival was founded to be a platform with no programming, no competition and no prizes, screening in alternative locations and free for all to watch. Now, staying strong to this ethos, London Experimental’s seventh edition will be taking place on Sunday the 21st of January at Peckham Arches.

  • Raphael Montañez Ortiz: Chopping Up the Classics

    The UCLA Film and Television Archive and Chicano Studies Research Center present two nights of Raphael Montañez Ortiz’s films, music and video art. Ortiz is a key figure of the 1960s international “Destruction in Art” movement, U.S.-based Guerrilla Theater and Latino art (including as founder of El Museo del Barrio). His extensive media collection — archived at UCLA — includes footage documenting the emergence of performance, installation art and experimental music in New York City. This two-night program surveys the full scope of his media art since the late 1950s.

    Microscope is very pleased to present a rare screening of films by Dutch filmmaker Barbara Meter — a central figure of the experimental film scene in the Netherlands starting from the 1970s and co-founder of the influential avant-garde film venue “Electric Cinema” in Amsterdam — curated by Robin Roblee-Strauss. All the films in the 55-minute long program will be screened in their original format.

A visual wash of street grids, land masses, water bodies, and curiosities from built and natural environments. Chromatic timbres and iridescent micro-tonalities. Orphaned labels and free-floating symbology. Auditory roundabouts and redirections. Saturated colors and the subtlest of tints. Sounds symphonic and screeching.

  • WATER+BODY: South Korean 16mm experimental cinema from the 1990s to today

    As part of the group exhibition Light shine glimmer — leak spill shimmer by Luuk Schröder, Lucy Cordes Engelman, and Bea Haut, the special screening WATER+BODY: 16mm Korean Experimental Cinema from the 1990s to Today will present eight works made on 16mm film by seven filmmakers: Lim Chang-jae, Lee Jang-wook, Jang Minyong, Jang Eunju, Onyou Oh, Yu Chae, Park Kyujae. Five of the films will be screened in 16mm.
