The 24 television screens collected by the artist form the backdrop of anOther, part installation, part performance and concert. Bodies, images and sound create living sculptures, generating both dialogue and tension.

American artist pioneers explored its means in regards to politics and collective participation as well as radical subjective experimentation. In Britain filmmakers used its structural and analytical means to criticise the canons of commercial cinema.

In spite of claims of its obsolescence, analog film is still alive. It continues to exist as an inimitable artistic medium, put to use in myriad forms around the world. Nonetheless, in the context of our ever-expanding digital landscape, analog film faces new challenges that have forced it into a process of deep transformation. What steps do we need to take to guarantee that analog film will remain as a living-breathing medium? What are the alternatives to the idea of film as an obsolete, historical object?

This symposium will expand the defining attributes of Fluxus film by addressing the problematic role of documentation within Fluxus practices, the documentation of performances as material film objects and the performativity of media, and the politics of presence in Fluxus film and performance. Includes screening of film and video works by Wolf Vostell, Eric Andersen, Nam June Paik, Ludwig Schönherr, Paul Sharits, and Carolee Schneemann, among others.

This seminar – part of the Edge of Frame Weekend – will address the questions of where experimental animation practice sits – at the ‘edges’ – in relation to independent animation, visual arts, histories, institutions. The seminar will do this not through the usual presentation of papers, but by asking artists, curators and academics to offer propositions and provocations, citing up to three works that illustrate their case.
RE/NIGHT/LIVE/MARE re- considers your nightmares; re- examines your daydreams; re- contextualizes pre-existing (video art? videotaped performance work? found footage?) through re- presenting, re- editing, re -mixing. Featuring works that re- search, re- consider, re- examine, re- contextualize nightmares, daydreams, flying-fancies, hyper-realities. Also included: live re- mixing pre- existing work with new live footage to re- consider it in under the cold, hard, clinical (or soft warm fuzzy *wicked grin ) light of the telematic screen.

Formed on October 13th 1968, the London Film-Makers’ Co-operative (LFMC) grew out of a series of screenings in the basement of counter-culture book store, Better Books, on Charing Cross road to become a pioneering organisation incorporating a film workshop, cinema space and distribution office. Radical in its early ideals, the Co-op played a crucial role in establishing moving image as an art form in the UK and internationally.
