Director, writer, teacher and curator of experimental cinema.

Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, ??Master of Documentary Film and DEA in Creation Theory, Analysis and Information Film from the University Pompeu Fabra. His doctoral research focuses on international experimental cinema.

He write articles on experimental film, video art and documentary film to print media such as Archivos de la Filmoteca, Secuencias and Cultura/s of La Vanguardia. He has worked with film and cultural magazines such as El Viejo Topo, Travelling, Scope or Benzina, and has coordinated the section on experimental film Fugas for non-fiction magazine Blogs &Docs.

He has published in catalogs and books such as Piedra, papel y tijera. El collage en el cine documental (Documenta Madrid, 2009), La risa oblicua. Tangentes, paralelismos e interesecciones entre el documental y el humor (Documenta Madrid, 2009) and Caras B del Video Arte en España (AECID, 2011).

    This one-hour program presents fifteen experimental shorts that focus on recontextualizing found or archival footage via algorithmic intervention. The work presented in the Retracted Cinema program use the appropriated film material itself as the site and means of auto-recontextualisation. Inspired by tendencies within conceptual art and Oulipo, the results are achieved by applying a set of rules or constraints (an algorithm) that governs a repeatable (iterative) array of transformations.

Spazio Menomale, dug towards the centre of the earth, turns into an art gallery and a perpetual theater where you can sink, a perception room in which there is no time to find, filled with routes and crossroads that become – as always in Nomadica’s experience – the artwork itself, unique, displaced and displacing, irregular and not (always) screened-off. Underground chaos where “the everlasting shape of life” resides.

  • (S8) Mostra de Cine Periférico 2017

    (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico will return to A Coruña from May 31 to June 4 to celebrating a special anniversary- its 8th edition - with an ambitious program. The new edition, under the title of Objects and Apparitions, is inspired by found footage cinema under the figure of the seminal artist of this film process, Joseph Cornell. The legacy of the North American multidisciplinary and surrealist creator has guided the elaboration of the official poster, where, imitating a kind of Cornell box, the spirit of appropriation is used to reflect his whole philosophy. Together with Cornell, the (S8) will present the works of two of the most prominent representatives of found footage film now: Cécile Fontaine and Luther Price. In addition, the program Found Sounds, curated by Mónica Savirón, will revolve around the work of Dutch filmmaker Barbara Meter.

    Albert Alcoz (Barcelona, 1979) is a filmmaker, writer, teacher and programmer of experimental film and videocreation. PhD in Communication from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, with a doctoral thesis on sound and structural cinema (2016). Graduate in Fine Arts by the University of Barcelona and Master of Documentary Cinema of Creation by the University Pompeu Fabra. Since 2005 he has made films in super 8, 16mm format and video that investigate the nature of moving image, using the cinematographic medium from a visual and sound perspective that refers to the tradition of avant-garde cinema, videocreation and music video.

  • Xcèntric: Noise and soundscape in structural film

    Sound in cinema is a key element to understanding the authors' artistic conception. This is a session specially designed to learn a bit more about the different roles of the soundtrack in the structural film.

    The filmmakers who practise the technical and aesthetic considerations of structural film work with sound from disruptive stances. Graphic manipulations on the optical soundtrack of the celluloid and alterations to ambient sound offer acoustic dialogues about noise and soundscape.
